About Canadian Point

As a settling place for French families in the late 1600s and early 1700s, Canadian Point, located across the Miramichi River from French Fort Cove, served as a relay point from the battery at Kethro Lookout to the Acadian refugees at Wilson's Point. Signals would be sent across the river and runners would then be sent up river to Beaubears Island and Wilson's Point to warn of possible British invasions.

In recent years, Canadian Point was also home to the city's wastewater lagoon, but has since been decommissioned. We will be developing Canadian Point into a public use site that will offer walking trails and provide an exceptional view of the natural wildlife and vegetation located here. Canadian Point will serve as a central gathering place for naturalists of all ages, and will be another area in the City of Miramichi that residents and tourists can enjoy nature amid the hustle and bustle of city life.

We are dedicated to preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of Canadian Point and presenting the history that has shaped the banks of the mighty Miramichi River.
